Tej Pratap Yadav’s Wife: Aishwarya Rai and the Divorce Case

Share

Tej Pratap Yadav’s wife is Aishwarya Rai, the daughter of former Bihar minister Chandrika Rai, and the two are still legally married. He filed for divorce in a Patna court on November 3, 2018. The latest reported court step, a failed mediation on February 24, 2026, left that case pending.

Tej Pratap is back in the news as a contestant on the reality show Rise and Fall Season 2, which began streaming on Prime Video and MX Player on September 26, 2026, Esquire India reported. A month earlier, on the show Bhojpuri Bawal, he said his divorce case was still running, according to Prabhat Khabar on August 31, 2026.

Is Tej Pratap Yadav still married to Aishwarya Rai?

Yes, on the public record, because no divorce decree has been reported. A third mediation attempt failed on February 24, 2026, and the Patna family court listed the case again for March 17, 2026, Prabhat Khabar reported that evening.

That attempt took place before Principal Family Court Judge Sunil Dutt Pandey, with lawyers for both sides present. Tej Pratap was in Delhi at the time, and his lawyer told the court that his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, was unwell, according to the same Prabhat Khabar report. Patrika added on February 24, 2026 that two earlier reconciliation meetings, one at the Patna zoo and one at a hotel, had also failed.

No outcome from the March 17 listing had been reported by a national outlet as of October 3, 2026. The most recent statement on the case came from Tej Pratap himself. “Mera to talaq ka case chal raha hai” (my divorce case is going on), he said on Bhojpuri Bawal, Prabhat Khabar reported on August 31, 2026.

Who is Aishwarya Rai

Who is Aishwarya Rai, Tej Pratap Yadav’s wife?

Aishwarya Rai is the eldest daughter of former Bihar minister Chandrika Rai and a granddaughter of former chief minister Daroga Prasad Rai, according to a Press Trust of India report from November 29, 2018. She is not the film actor who shares her name.

National Herald described her on November 29, 2018 as a management graduate. Her father was the sitting RJD legislator from Parsa in December 2019, The Quint reported from PTI copy. Beyond that, her presence in national reporting consists of her own statements about the marriage, which appear in the allegations and expulsion sections.

The wedding took place in Patna on May 12, 2018, the PTI report carried by Business Standard said. Less than six months later, Tej Pratap filed his divorce petition and cited incompatibility. He filed it under Section 13(1)(ia) of India’s Hindu Marriage Act, according to the same report.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, another politician from the Bhojpuri-speaking belt, has his first and second marriages laid out by date in the Manoj Tiwari wife and divorce timeline.

Two proceedings in Patna courts

The marriage has been argued in two connected tracks. The first is the divorce petition Tej Pratap filed in November 2018. The second started with Aishwarya’s own applications in the family court, as Amar Ujala and Aaj Tak reported. She filed a maintenance plea on November 3, 2019 and sought protection under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

In the maintenance track, the family court ordered Tej Pratap to pay Rs 22,000 a month toward her food and housing, along with Rs 2 lakh toward her litigation costs, Amar Ujala reported on December 25, 2019. In a December 21, 2019 order, the same court declined the protection she had asked for under the domestic-violence law, according to Aaj Tak.

A Patna High Court bench of Justices P.B. Bajanthri and Arun Kumar Jha later set that order aside, IANS reported on May 11, 2023. The bench directed the family court to hear the matter again, and IANS reported that Aishwarya had told the court she wanted to live with her husband. On September 27, 2023, the Patna court directed Tej Pratap to arrange alternative accommodation for her within a month and bear its rent and electricity bills. The same order told him not to commit domestic violence against her, Aaj Tak reported on October 12, 2023.

The divorce petition has since moved into mediation. Prabhat Khabar reported on February 24, 2026 that the High Court had dismissed a review petition filed by Aishwarya and said it would not interfere. The court asked both sides to cooperate with mediation in the family court. The same outlet reported that she has asked for a furnished home in Patna’s SK Puri area and a monthly allowance of Rs 1.5 lakh.

What each side has alleged

The allegations in this dispute are claims made by one party. No court ruling on any of them has been reported, and each one is paired with the response that was reported.

Tej Pratap’s stated reason has stayed close to incompatibility. “Our differences are irreconcilable. I had said this to my parents before the marriage was solemnised,” he said, as National Herald reported on November 29, 2018. Aishwarya took the opposite position in court, telling judges she wanted to continue living with him, IANS reported in May 2023.

In September 2019, Aishwarya alleged that she had not been given food for three months at her in-laws’ home. She accused Rabri Devi and her sister-in-law Misa Bharti of harassing her, ETV Bharat reported from IANS copy on September 30, 2019. Misa Bharti denied the allegations. “I’m unnecessarily being dragged into the entire controversy as I hardly live there,” she said, as Scroll.in reported, citing NDTV.

On December 15, 2019, Aishwarya alleged that Rabri Devi and a female guard hit her, dragged her by the hair and took her phone before pushing her out of the house, The Quint reported from PTI copy the next day. Amar Ujala reported on December 25, 2019 that she then filed a domestic-violence case naming Rabri Devi, Tej Pratap and Misa Bharti. Rabri Devi disputed that account. The same report said she had filed her own case accusing Aishwarya of raising her hand against her.

Tej Pratap repeated that counter-claim on Bhojpuri Bawal, alleging that Aishwarya had assaulted his mother. He also said she objected to his prayers and temple visits and that the match was an arranged marriage made at his parents’ wish, Prabhat Khabar reported on August 31, 2026. Aishwarya’s account of the same household, given in December 2019, is that she was the one assaulted.

After Tej Pratap’s expulsion from the RJD, Aishwarya spoke to reporters in Patna on May 26, 2025. “Why was my life ruined? Why was I beaten?” she asked, India TV reported on May 29, 2025. She added that the family was still together and called the expulsion “drama” timed for the elections. That India TV report carried no direct reply from Tej Pratap or the party.

Anushka Yadav and the 2025 expulsion

On May 24, 2025, a post on Tej Pratap’s Facebook page showed him with a woman named Anushka Yadav. “We both have known each other for the past 12 years,” the post read, according to The Tribune. The post was later deleted. He then wrote on X that his page had been hacked and the pictures edited.

Lalu Prasad Yadav expelled him from the party and the family the next day. “Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our collective struggle for social justice,” Lalu wrote on X, The Tribune reported on May 25, 2025. The party expulsion runs for six years. Tejashwi Yadav said his brother was “free to make any choice in his personal life” but that certain things could not be tolerated.

Tej Pratap later changed his account, telling a television interviewer on June 29, 2025 that he had posted the photo himself and adding, “I loved her, it is no crime,” Aaj Tak reported the following day. By February 2026 his position had shifted again, as Patrika reported that he called fresh claims about Anushka Yadav a conspiracy by his opponents and denied any relationship.

No second marriage has been reported. Asked on Bhojpuri Bawal about a future partner, he said she would come once the divorce was over and declined to name her, Prabhat Khabar reported on August 31, 2026.
