Monal was born and brought up in a middle-class in a Gujarati family in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. She did her early schooling from Shree Saraswati Mandir High School, located in Maninagar, Ahmedabad Gujarat and later on completed her Graduation in Commerce from the Gujarat University.

She never had an ambition of getting into modelling and films. She wanted to get into banking sector and during her graduation days, she started working with ING Vysya Bank which was a privately owned Indian multinational bank based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

Later on, she was suggested by her yoga teacher to participate in the Mirchi Queen Bee beauty pageant contest organised by Radio Mirchi in the year 2011, which she won and later on went on to win the Miss Gujarat title as well. In an interview, Monal once said “I clearly stated in my letter that I would not be able to attend the auditions on account of my 9 to 5 job. Those days I did not knew how to use make-up and went for the event in a simple salwar kameez”.

In just a short time span of 10 years, Monal has acted in Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Gujarati, & Marathi films.

She made her debut from a Telugu film named Sudigadu. Sudigadu (English translation is Lucky-Man), which was a remake of C. S. Amudhan’s debut Tamil movie named Thamizh Padam, was directed by Bhimaneni Srinivasa Rao and was produced by Chandrasekhar D Reddy under Arundathi Movies banner. The film featured Allari Naresh and Monal Gajjar in the lead roles, where Allari played a double role of both father and son. The film was released on August 24th, 2012.

She made her Hindi film industry debut along with the legendary singer Asha Bhosle in the 2013 Hindi-language film named Mai (English translation is Mother). Mai was the debut of veteran singer Asha Bhosle as a lead actress. The film was also a debut film of director Mahesh Kodiyal & was written by Mahesh Kodiyal himself along with Manoj Tapasya & Sahil Sultanpuri (Lyrics).
