Introduction
“Binodiini: Ekti Natir Upakhyan” is an Indian Bengali-language Epic Biographical Drama film which narrates the life of the renowned theatre artist ‘Binodini Dasi’ also known as ‘Noti Binodini’ who was a well known Bengali actress. The script of this film is co-written and directed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee in his directorial debut in Bengali cinema.
The film was released in the theatres across India on January 23rd, 2025. Initially this film was scheduled for a grand release in the year 2023 on the eve of ‘Pohela Boishakh’ which also marks the beginning of the Bengali New Year. However, the makers later announced a new release date in October 2024 with the unveiling of a motion poster and the film finally released on January 23rd, 2025 in the theatres across India.

Reception
The Hindustan Times – Subhasmita Kanji praised this film “Binodiini: Ekti Natir Upakhyan” and gave four (4) out of five (5) stars and wrote “Rukmini Maitra has not only portrayed but lived the character of Binodiini Dasi in this film. The strong points of the film are its music, background score and the dialogues.” She also praised all the remaining actors who played their characters significantly, specially Chandrayee Ghosh, Kaushik Ganguly and Om Sahani.
Sangbad Pratidin’s – Sandipta Bhanja praised this film and wrote “Rukmini is the spine of the film, finely carved out by Ram Kamal Mukherjee”.
The Times of India’s – Poorna Banerjee gave “Binodiini: Ekti Natir Upakhyan” three (3) out of five stars (5) and stated “The director has a rather dramatic vision of late 19th century Bengal. The story leaves out a lot of Binodini’s early struggles as an actress and focuses on the phase where she is already well-established. Rukmini Maitra is brilliant in parts as Binodini”. She also praised Halder’s cinematography as well as the well orchestrated music and gave a mixed opinion on the portrayal of the remaining cast.
