The Venomous Abyss, the flagship raid of WoW Midnight Season 2, is now fully open, giving players the chance to take on all eight bosses and face the formidable Ula’tek herself.
It’s a tough challenge, filled with nasty poison debuffs, dangerous DoTs, tight movement checks, and plenty of other mechanics to keep you on your toes. In this article, we’ve put together a bunch of tips that’ll help you get raid-ready and make your run a little smoother.
Preparations
Addons
If you use boss addons like Deadly Boss Mods (DBM) and BigWigs, make sure they’re up-to-date with the raid. Also, check Wago.io for updated WeakAuras designed for Venomous Abyss to track volatile personal debuffs like Eternal Venom, stacking DoTs, and soak indicators.
Consumables
Consumables won’t carry a raid on their own, but they can definitely give you a useful edge over a long progression night.
Here’s what to look for when stocking up at the Auction House or crafting your own supplies.
Flasks and combat potions:
Flask of the Shattered Sun: A strong primary-stat option for Critical Strike builds.
Potion of Recklessness: High-end combat potion used during your main damage windows and Heroism/Bloodlust phases.
Light’s Potential: A reliable, cost-effective combat potion. For early pulls and lower raid difficulties, lower-quality potions are a good way to save gold.
Lightfused Mana Potion: A useful option for healers who need a quick mana refill during long encounters.
Concentrated Silvermoon Health Potion: Essential panic-button heal for emergency survival in toxic overlaps on bosses like Vashnik or The Twin Fangs.
Weapon buffs and runes:
Thalassian Phoenix Oil: Crafted by Enchanters, this oil provides a solid boost to Critical Strike and Haste. Keep it applied to your primary weapons at all times.
Void-Touched Augment Rune: Offers an additional raw increase to your main attribute. Stack this on top of your flask and food buffs for maximum performance.
Food buffs
Raid feasts: Silvermoon Parade and Harandar Celebration are good group options that increase your primary stat and Stamina through the Well Fed buff and restore your health and mana while eating.
Royal Roast: A strong personal food choice if your group doesn’t have a feast available.
Which Classes and Specs Are Strong in the Venomous Abyss?
You can raid with pretty much any class as long as you know the mechanics and make good use of your toolkit. However, specs with strong multi-target cleave and damage against two separate targets do have a significant edge in the Venomous Abyss.
Top DPS Specs
Strong all-round performers: Arcane Mage (massive burst and overall output), Destruction Warlock (fantastic spread two-target cleave), Arms Warrior (exceptional two-target execute profiles), as well as Shadow Priest, Windwalker Monk, and Balance Druid.
Single-target damage: Marksmanship Hunter, Outlaw/Subtlety Rogue, and Retribution Paladin perform well in pure single-target burn fights like Sszorak.
Top Healer Specs
Preservation Evoker: A great option for raid healing, with strong throughput and a powerful cooldown toolkit for heavy incoming damage.
Discipline Priest: Brings Power Infusion and heavy burst raid healing alongside great passive damage.
Holy Priest and Restoration Shaman: Both offer massive raw throughput and indispensable team utility like Spirit Link Totem and Power Word: Fortitude.
Top Tank Specs
Blood Death Knight: Great tank damage output, incredible self-healing loops, and crucial utility with Death Grip and Anti-Magic Zone.
Protection Paladin: Massive single-target durability and powerful defensives, including the group-wide Devotion Aura and Blessing of Spellwarding.
Protection Warrior: Powerful physical mitigation and useful raid support through Rallying Cry and Battle Shout.
Want a smoother run regardless of your class or spec? You can grab a Venomous Abyss boost and team up with pro raiders who’ll help you handle the mechanics, beat the bosses, and work toward your raid goals without the usual progression headaches.
General Tips
Many encounters severely punish failed cleansing and missed mechanics, so your top priority should be managing stacking poison and venom debuffs and pre-assigning groups for soaking before each pull.
Here are a few more things to keep in mind:
Dispels: Several boss encounters in this raid (like Vashnik the Malignant, Entombed Sentinels, and Sszorak) heavily focus on stacking poison damage and toxic effects. Keep your poison dispels at the ready and assign health pots to easy keys.
Mobility: Save mobility cooldowns (like Stampeding Roar or Wind Rush Totem) for massive directional waves and platform-wide shifts.
Positioning: Pre-assign spots along the arena’s outer edges for dropping fixated echoes and poison circles. This leaves more room in the middle to dodge mechanics, reposition, and move safely when the fight gets hectic.
Role-Specific Tips
Tanks: Almost every encounter features a strict tank swap mechanic (such as swapping on Dripping Fangs for Vashnik or Ravage for Sszorak). Coordinate swap debuffs clearly before pulling. Always communicate taunt-swap thresholds early for stacking tank-buster DoTs (Hollowing Strikes, Bloodvenom Injection, Stone Breaker), and never take repeated heavy hits without an appropriate defensive cooldown.
Healers: Coordinate external defensive cooldown rotations for heavy periodic raid-wide pulses (like Soulcoil Rite or add death bursts) and stagger dispels on lingering DoTs to prevent overlapping fatal group damage.
DPS: Always be ready to switch to high-priority adds or absorb shields (such as advancing Amani or active slimes) before they reach the center of the room and trigger a wipe.
