Who is Anya Singh?
Anya Singh is an actress from outside the film industry who spent eight years building small and mid-sized roles before a streaming show made her widely known. She was born in London and lived there until her family moved to Delhi when she was five, The Times of India and India Today both reported in September 2025.
She studied at Mayo College in Ajmer, finishing school in 2011 per India Today, and graduated from Venkateswara College in Delhi. At school she joined the drama team and trained in Odissi, the classical dance form. Those stage years were where she found she loved acting, The Times of India wrote, though she did not think of it as a career at first because it felt too uncertain.
Film debut and early career
She moved to Mumbai in December 2015 with a deal from her family: one year to find work. In May 2016 she met Shanoo Sharma, the casting director at Yash Raj Films, and auditioned for a part at the studio, The Times of India reported.
That audition led to Qaidi Band, a 2017 musical drama directed by Habib Faisal that also launched Aadar Jain, as the YRF alumni page records. She played Bindiya Chadha. India Today reported that she had signed a three-film deal with YRF, but the debut did poorly at the box office and the later films did not happen.
She kept working. In 2019 she made her Telugu debut in Ninu Veedani Needanu Nene, and in 2020 the series Never Kiss Your Best Friend brought her to a much larger audience. The Times of India credits that show as the role that made her famous, and India Today says streaming platforms were where her wider recognition began.

The Times of India also reported that in interviews she has spoken of being mocked more than once for not being tall enough or beautiful enough.
The Ba***ds of Bollywood and other web series
Her streaming credits before 2025 include Kaun Banegi Shikharwati and Jee Karda, and she appeared in the 2023 film Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. In Stree 2 (2024) she had a short role as Chitti.
The bigger moment came with The Ba***ds of Bollywood. It was Aryan Khan’s first series as a director, with music from a team that included Shashwat Sachdev, and Anya plays Sanya, the resourceful manager of the lead character Aasmaan, played by Lakshya. When the show launched in September 2025, The Times of India wrote that she, more than the lead, was the one “courting rave reviews from netizens”. She topped IMDb’s popular Indian celebrities list a week later, India Today reported.
Fans also debated the writing of her character. On a Reddit post of her talking about the role in November 2025, the top comment offered one reading of Sanya’s backstory:
“I feel the backstory or the reason she stated would probably be Raghav’s character being supportive of LGBTQ community when someone might expect someone like his character to not be so progressive and respectful of individual choices.”

Other commenters read it differently: one suggested the writers wanted to rule her out as a love interest for Aasmaan.

1920: Cold Winter with Ahan Shetty
Vikram Bhatt has cast Anya as the female lead in 1920: Cold Winter, The Times of India reported on 30 September 2026, citing Bollywood Hungama. It will be her first horror film. The makers were said to be impressed by her screen presence.
The film reunites her with Ahan Shetty. In Border 2, the war drama released on Republic Day 2026, he played Lieutenant Commander Mahendra Singh Rawat and she played his wife, Sudha Rawat. The two are expected to play different characters in the horror film.
It is the sixth instalment of the 1920 franchise, which Bhatt started in 2008 with Adah Sharma and Rajneish Duggal. Anand Pandit is producing, and the cast listed by the Times of India’s film page also includes Larissa Bonesi. Himesh Reshammiya is composing the music, his fifth film with Bhatt, and the shoot is planned for Mussoorie in winter, The Times of India reported.
Reports differ on timing. The Times of India expected filming to start in November 2026, while Pinkvilla quoted a source saying it would go on floors towards the end of the year. Dainik Jagran wrote that no release date has been fixed.
The cast and filmmakers launched the project in Mumbai in October 2026. The event started nearly two hours late, and Anand Pandit used it to assure the press that the story is completely original, DPIFF News reported, citing Bollywood Hungama.

Father and family
Anya does not come from a film family. Her father is a doctor and her grandfather served in the army, The Times of India wrote, citing Pinkvilla, and India Today reported the same.
Her family’s support was mixed when she started out. After each project, her mother would ask, “Are you coming back now?”, India Today reported. Their names have not been given in the profiles cited here.
