- Leap-day aware
How to calculate an exact age
- Enter the date of birth. Use the date picker or type the date.
- Leave “Age on this date” as today, or change it to find someone’s age on a past or future date, such as a wedding day or a show premiere.
- Press Calculate age. The result shows the age in years, months and days, then the same span in months, weeks, days and hours, the weekday of birth and the next birthday.
The celebrity buttons fill in a birth date taken from that person’s FamousTarz profile, so you can see how old they are today without doing the sum yourself.
The methodHow the age is worked out
The calculator counts whole calendar months first and then the days left over, which is how ages are normally stated on forms and in news reports.
- Years and months: it finds the last date that falls the same day of the month as the birth date, on or before the target date. When a month is shorter than the birth day, it uses that month’s last day. Someone born on 31 January reaches one month of age on 28 February (29 in a leap year).
- Days: the days between that date and the target date.
- Totals: weeks, days and hours come from the full number of days between the two dates. Hours are approximate, because the time of birth is not used.
- Leap-day birthdays: for someone born on 29 February, the birthday in other years is counted on 28 February.
Indian age vs exact age. In India a person’s age on a form is usually the number of completed years, which is the “years” figure here. Some families also count “running” age (completed years plus one). This calculator gives completed years.
Check an age limit on its cut-off date
Most age rules in India are measured on a fixed date, not on the day you apply. To check eligibility, enter the date of birth, set “Age on this date” to the cut-off date in the table, and compare the years shown with the limit.
| What you are checking | Age rule | Date to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Class 1 school admission | 6 years or more. The Ministry of Education asked all states and UTs on 15 February 2024 to apply this from the 2024-25 session; some states are phasing it in later. | The cut-off date in your state’s or school’s admission notice |
| Voter registration | 18 years. You can be enrolled from the first qualifying date after you turn 18, and apply in advance from 17. | 1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October |
| Driving licence | 16 for a motorcycle of up to 50cc, 18 for other vehicles and 20 for transport vehicles such as trucks, under Section 4 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. | The day you apply for the learner’s licence |
| Legal age for marriage | 21 for men and 18 for women, under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. | The wedding date |
| UPSC Civil Services Exam 2026 | 21 to 32 for the general category, with higher limits for reserved categories. Candidates had to be born between 2 August 1994 and 1 August 2005. | 1 August 2026 |
| Senior citizen status | 60 years, under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. | Today, or the date a scheme names |
This trips up real applicants. Aspirants on Reddit regularly ask whether the upper limit is 31 or 32, and whether age is counted on the day they fill in the form:
“Max age to give UPSC? is it 32 or 31?”
— r/UPSC, May 2026 (1 upvotes, question title, excerpt)
“some people have told me that at the time of filling up the application”
— r/UPSC, July 2021 (2 upvotes, excerpt; the poster asks whether the application date is the age that counts)
Both have the same answer: the age that counts is the age on the cut-off date in the notice (1 August for UPSC), not the age on the day you apply. Set that date in the calculator and read the years.
Rules change, and many exams and schemes set their own cut-off dates, so always confirm the date in the official notice before you apply.
Reading an upper limit. “21 to 32” means a candidate must have turned 21 and must not yet have turned 32 on 1 August 2026. Someone born on 2 August 1994 shows 31 years, 11 months and 30 days on that date, so they are eligible. Someone born a day earlier, on 1 August 1994, shows exactly 32 years, so they are not. When a notice gives a range of birth dates, that range is the official answer.

FAQAge calculator questions
How do I calculate my age from my date of birth?
Subtract the birth year from the current year, then take away one year if your birthday has not come yet this year. For months and days, count the full months since your last birthday and then the days since the last monthly date. The calculator above does all of this for you.
Can I find someone’s age on a specific date?
Yes. Change “Age on this date” to any date after the birth date. This is useful for questions like how old an actor was when a show premiered.
Does the time of birth change the result?
Not for years, months and days. The calculator works in whole calendar days, so the time of birth is not needed. The hours figure is an estimate for the same reason.
What if I was born on 29 February?
In years without a leap day, the calculator counts the birthday on 28 February. Some people celebrate on 1 March instead, and the age in years is the same either way after that date.
Is my date of birth stored anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to FamousTarz.
